Advocacy

Through the Advocacy Committee launched in 2017, the JLCV is currently focusing its advocacy work on access to quality early education. Specifically, in conjunction with community partner Vermont Early Childhood Alliance, JLCV has advocated state senators and representatives for an increase in funding of $9.2 million to Vermont's Child Care Financial Assistance Program. It is also hosted a film viewing and panel discussion of "The Raising of America: Early Childhood and the Future of Our Nation.

Ronald McDonald House

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Burlington, Vermont is a “home away from home” for families with seriously ill children seeking treatment at the University of Vermont.  It is the aim of the organization to be a refuge for families experiencing the stress and anguish of their loved one’s illness.  The JLCV has a long-standing commitment to Ronald McDonald House.  In addition to fully renovating the family playroom, we also provide bi-monthly homemade meals to families staying at the house.

Done-in-a-Day Projects

Each year, JLCV responds to needs in the community by researching, organizing and participating in short-term volunteer projects that can be accomplished in just one day.  Projects respond to a variety of community needs. Past “Done-in-a-Day” projects include Saturday Sort-A-Thons at the Vermont Food Bank, and Green Up Day at COTS.

JLCV Diaper Bank

The JLCV established Chittenden County's first Diaper Bank in 2018.  We currently distribute diapers to local food shelves from our South Burlington head quarters.  Click here for more information.
